Guide to Moving With Pets

No matter how prepared you are, and how far in advance you plan, moving is a stressful event.  It is even more stressful for your pets, since they are leaving the only place they really know, and they have no idea what's going on.  Here's a few helpful steps and tips you can take to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible for your pets.

  • Your pets will be moving in and out of the house fairly often.  Make sure they are on a leash or in a crate in case they run off!  Even if they do not have a history of doing that, understand that they will be in a stressful state of mind.
  • The most difficult days for your pets are the unloading/loading days.  Keep a close eye on them, or have a family member be in charge of keeping them calm.
  • If you are moving between states, make sure you are aware of state laws for your pets, as some states have stricter laws than others.
  • Lastly, don't rush things.  It stresses you out, you are more prone to forgetting things or making mistakes, and your pets pick up the mood.
